Studies have repeatedly found that anywhere from 20-40% of LGBT youth experience housing instability, and that LGBT adults are 2x as likely as cishet adults to become unhoused. These numbers are only compounded further for QTPOC identified individuals. We know that living in a state of homelessness or with housing instability is not only an act of violence itself, but exposes affected individuals to even further state/societal violence. We stand in solidarity with those who are healing, and especially with those whose current financial/housing situations prevent them from healing. LGBTQ+ people deserve to celebrate Pride month in a safe and steady home. We know that stable housing is the first line of defense against violence for many LGBTQ+ identified people.
We’re therefore excited to announce a new initiative for pride month – Paying with Pride!
Thanks to everyone’s generous support and contributions, VAVP is able to host a Pride
Rent Party and can provide financial assistance for the June housing & rent fees of some
LGBTQ+ survivors of violence in VA.
If interested, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Paying with Pride”. Participants may be asked to disclose certain information, such as demographic information, a copy of an invoice, lease or other official agreement, and information on any official payment methods.
Thank you to all our volunteers, donors, grantees and partners who have helped make this
opportunity possible. As a local organization we know that our true strength comes from –
and for – the community.
